Jaiswal was declared out by the third umpire on the fifth ball of the 71st over despite snicko showing no clear evidence of the ball touching Jaiswal’s bat or gloves.
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to X on Monday, December 30, to react to the controversy regarding Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal in the second innings of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Jaiswal was declared out by the third umpire after Pat Cummins opted to take a review following the Indian batter’s shot off his bowling. There was no conclusive evidence of the ball touching Jaiswal’s bat or gloves, and neither was there any movement in the snicko, but despite that, Jaiswal was declared out by the third umpire.
Reacting to Jaiswal’s dismissal, Ashwin posted a four-word tweet, and it went viral on the internet within no time. The 38-year-old cricketer, who retired from international cricket on December 18, following the conclusion of the third India-Australia Test in Brisbane, wrote, “Interesting and huge moment.”
Australian doing what they are known forCheating!!
As per ICC rules if Sniko shows no disturbance then it should be not out.

Legendary Indian cricketer and former captain Sunil Gavaskar, who was doing commentary for Star Sports at the moment, was also not pleased with the decision, and he was heard slamming the third umpire’s decision.
Thousands of Indian fans who were present at the biggest cricket stadium in Australia to watch the match also lost their cool and started chanting “Cheating, cheating” at the top of their voices.
Before returning back to the pavilion on the fifth ball of the 71st over, Jaiswal faced 208 balls and, with the help of eight fours, scored 84 runs. He formed an 88-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Rishabh Pant (30) to keep India alive in the match after the visitors lost three batters for 33 runs in 26.1 overs in the first session on Monday.
During his 84-run knock on Monday, Jaiswal also entered his name in the history books by taking the No. 2 position in the list of Indian batters who have scored the most runs in a calendar year in Test cricket. Jaiswal, who made his Test debut last year in July against the West Indies, finished the year 2024 with 1478 runs to his name in 15 matches.
The overall record of scoring the most Test runs in a calendar year for India is in the name of Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 1562 runs in 2010.
