Real Madrid icon could end his career in native land – report

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric may be contemplating the possibility of ending his illustrious career in his home country, Croatia.

Recent reports from SPORT suggest that the idea of a return to Dinamo Zagreb, where Modric first made a name for himself, is gathering momentum.

Despite Modric’s well-documented wish to retire at Real Madrid, circumstances might be shifting. At 39, the Croatian maestro continues to defy age with his performances, but his minutes on the pitch at Real Madrid have been gradually reducing.

This natural decline in playing time could influence his decision about the future of his football career.

Dinamo Zagreb would love to have him

Recently, Dinamo Zagreb’s coach, Nenad Bjelica, publicly expressed interest in bringing Modric back to the club. Bjelica acknowledged that having Modric in the team, even for a brief stint, would be a dream for Dinamo Zagreb and its fans.

“Who wouldn’t like to have Luka Modric in their team? I think that every Dinamo Zagreb fan would be very happy to be able to count on him, even if it is for a year,” he admitted.

Modric’s connection to Dinamo Zagreb remains strong, given that he started his professional career with the Croatian giants.

His potential return has been a topic of speculation, especially with other Croatian stars like Ivan Rakitic and Ivan Perisic having recently moved back to clubs in their homeland.

While Modric has not committed to any plans, he has spoken fondly about following Croatian football, including matches involving Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split, whenever his schedule permits.

“Moving to Al Hajduk or Dinamo? I think you know who I’m closest to. For me, we will see, it is not a topic for this press conference. I follow the games of Hajduk and Dinamo Zagreb, the whole league when I find time,” he said.

As things stand, Modric’s future remains uncertain given that his contract ends in 2025. Whether he stays at Real Madrid, returns to Croatia, or explores other avenues remains to be seen.
