Real Madrid midfielder is a candidate to captain French NT

A report from RMC Sport has revealed that Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is in the running to become the new captain of the French national team during the current international break.

With Antoine Griezmann retiring and Kylian Mbappe not selected for the upcoming Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium, the captain’s position remains open.

At the moment, three strong candidates have emerged to take on the captaincy role: Ibrahima Konate, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Jules Kounde.

However, recent reports suggest that goalkeeper Mike Maignan is not being considered for the role, despite his experience and leadership qualities.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that during a recent press conference, Konate openly discussed potential candidates for the captaincy.

“There are a few players who have the profile; whether it’s me, Mike, Jules and Aurelien, perhaps,” he said.

Tchouameni, who has been a regular starter for Real Madrid and a trusted player for France manager Didier Deschamps since 2022, is viewed as a strong contender for the captaincy.

His leadership skills and combative style on the pitch have made him a respected figure both at the club and in the national team. Despite sometimes receiving mixed reactions in the French dressing room, his commanding presence is undeniable.

One of Tchouameni’s standout qualities is his versatility. While he primarily plays as a midfielder, he has proven his ability to step into a centre-back role when required, a trait that could be invaluable for Deschamps.

Although this may not be a pressing need for the national team at the moment, Tchouameni’s adaptability is an asset that strengthens his case for becoming the next French captain.

In summary, Tchouameni’s leadership, versatility, and consistent performances for both Real Madrid and the French national team make him one of the top contenders for the captaincy during this international break.
