Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger will not be joining up with the Germany national team during the September international break. The veteran defender has been left out of the squad by manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Germany are set to take on Hungary and the Netherlands in Group 3 of the Nations League A tier, in their first appearance since their Euro 2024 exit at the hands of Spain. Rudiger has been left out of the squad, according to the German Football Federation (via MD), as “after an intense summer, in consultation with the national coach, he was not called up in September and will use that time to recover.”
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will travel with back to Germany, as he is set to take over number one duties from Manuel Neuer, after the latter’s retirement. Die Mannschaft are also without Thomas Muller and Ilkay Gundogan after their retirements.
Ter Stegen is the only La Liga player involved, although Barcelona targets Jonathan Tah, Joshua Kimmich and Angelo Stiller have all been included.
