Real Madrid unlikely to sign anyone in January; retain ‘total confidence’ in Spaniard

Dani Carvajal’s injury could be a major blow to Real Madrid, especially with Carlo Ancelotti’s limited options in defence.

The veteran right-back, an influential figure both on and off the pitch, will require at least a year to fully recover.

That is why Real Madrid were immediately received calls to sign new players in the upcoming January transfer window, with reports even suggesting that the club could speed up their pursuit of top target Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, a recent report from Diario AS has offered a different view. It appears the club are not currently planning to enter the January transfer market to sign an emergency replacement.

The report adds that there is full confidence in Lucas Vazquez to fill the role, allowing Real Madrid to avoid any rushed decisions.

Vázquez, originally a winger, has made the right-back position his own in recent years and earned a contract renewal on July 18.

His performance last season further demonstrated his reliability, contributing three goals and eight assists in 1,784 minutes.

His versatility was crucial during previous injury spells for Carvajal, including the 2020-21 season when he started 34 of 35 games. Now, he is poised to take on the role again.

After the recent victory against Villarreal, Ancelotti reiterated his trust in Vázquez, stating, “Lucas Vazquez gives us a lot of confidence.”

Real Madrid are also not considering signing a centre-back at this stage, despite options like Valencia’s Yarek Gasiorowski being on their radar.

The club’s strategy remains focused on future, strategic signings, rather than short-term fixes. Only market opportunities similar to past acquisitions of David Alaba or Antonio Rüdiger would prompt a change in their plans.
