Earlier today, it came to light that Trent Alexander-Arnold has informed Liverpool that he wishes to sign for Real Madrid in the summer as a free agent.
The youngster’s decision comes as a massive boost to Los Blancos’ bid to reinforce the right-back department and to secure one of the best in the business on a free transfer would be a steal.
Despite the progress on that front, Real Madrid still stare at uncertainty over the situation of Alphonso Davies and the left-back position, especially after the Canadian star took a U-turn after showing initial signs of promise.
Headed away from Real Madrid?
As relayed by Real Madrid Confidencial, the confidence in Davies’ move is on a slow decline with every passing day and there is no longer as much optimism as there initially was.
For starters, the player continues to be in talks with Bayern Munich over a potential renewal, and while it is not close, the catch is that he is not fixated on Real Madrid.
Should he opt to push for a departure as a free agent, Davies continues to evaluate all the options at his doorstep and is interested in a move to the Premier League as well.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in his signing and can pull the level in June. It thus remains to be seen if he prefers a move to England over one to Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are aware that they still have a reasonable chance of landing the Canadian, but their conviction is nowhere close to where it was a few months ago.
In case the Bayern Munich star does not arrive, they will continue to retain faith in Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia who have done a good job. The option of scouting for an alternative is also alive.
