Despite a 130-125 loss to the Oklahoma City Blue, former Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard tallied 49 points in his G League debut with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday.

Sheppard made eight 3-pointers and went 17 of 33 from the field. The Houston Rockets selected the London, Kentucky, native with the third overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. During the summer, he was named to the NBA’s All-Summer League team after averaging 20 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

Once the NBA season started, Sheppard averaged 3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 11.6 minutes in 30 games played for Houston. But the Rockets moved Sheppard down to the Vipers on Monday.
