Thursday night brought word that wide receiver Hollywood Brown has been cleared to practice with the Chiefs and the team isn’t going to wait any longer to get him on the field.
According to multiple reports, the Chiefs will have Brown on the practice field on Friday for the first time since he injured his sternoclavicular joint on the team’s first play of the preseason. Brown had surgery and went on injured reserve at the end of the summer.
Brown will be able to practice for the next 21 days before reaching a deadline to be activated. Brown can be activated at any point in that window, but it seems unlikely that Brown would be added to the 53-man roster before Sunday’s game against the Browns.
The Chiefs signed Brown as a free agent this offseason with the hope that his speed would add a dimension to the team’s passing offense. The injury got in the way of that, but the Chiefs may still benefit from Brown’s ability before the year is out.
