Reports Milan reach agreement with Gabba over new contract extension

Milan have reportedly agreed a deal in principle over a new contract extension with central defender Matteo Gabbia, who has become an important figure in the Rossoneri back-line over the last calendar year.

Reports Milan and Gabbia agree new contract extension

According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Milan and Gabbia have reached an agreement in principle over a new contract extension, which will run until the summer of 2029. The 25-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2026.

Gabbia has been on Milan’s books for well over a decade, having joined the youth ranks all the way back in 2012. Though he was kept around for several seasons, it took until January 2023 for him to enjoy his first real breakthrough in the Rossoneri defence.

He was initially sent out on loan to LaLiga outfit Villarreal for the 2023-24 season, but was recalled in January amidst a defensive injury crisis at San Siro and eventually went on to make 18 appearances in Serie A by the end of the campaign.

Gabbia made four consecutive Serie A starts this season before suffering a muscular injury which has kept him out of the last four league fixtures. He has also made two Champions League starts this term, plus another appearance against Liverpool.

His Milan form was also rewarded with a call-up to the senior Italy national team for Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Israel in October.
