Reports: PCB demands India’s explanation for Champions Trophy travel refusal

Date:

Earlier, India wrote a letter to the ICC stating that they won’t travel to Pakistan

The future of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan hangs in thin air after BCCI reportedly pulled out of travelling to Pakistan. In the aftermath of that incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wrote to the ICC seeking confirmation and an explanation for their refusal to travel to Pakistan for the ICC event.

ESPNCricinfo added that the Indian government hasn’t given BCCI clearance to travel to Pakistan. But PCB wants the BCCI to confirm the proceedings in writing and provide a justification.

However, for PCB, nothing has changed, given that they never intended to host the tournament in a hybrid model. The tournament is scheduled to be played in Pakistan from February 19 across three venues – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.

According to ESPNCricinfo’s reports, PCB’s chief, Mohsin Naqvi, isn’t happy with the proceedings. The PCB has pointed out that there was no objection to the tournament being awarded to Pakistan earlier.

It isn’t the first time that these two countries have been at loggerheads, with the same happening in last year’s Asia Cup when Pakistan had to host India’s clash in Sri Lanka. However, Pakistan didn’t hesitate to travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, and the reports suggest that they expected the same from India.
