Roma’s decision to sack Daniele De Rossi after only four games into the new season sparked outrage within and outside Trigoria.
As revealed by Corriere dello Sport, the decision was met with great surprise by players at the club who did not see it coming.
The newspaper reports that the ones who’ve been there the longest, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gianluca Mancini above all, asked to meet with the club’s top management to rediscuss the decision on the morning of De Rossi’s dismissal.
During this confrontation the two captains of the team asked Roma to reconsider their decision.
Additionally, the two asked for explanations regarding a survey Roma seem to have carried out a week in advance, where the club asked select members of the team if they were satisfied with De Rossi – the answer had been an unanimous and resounding ‘yes’.
