New Delhi: Once considered one of the brightest cricketing talents in India, Prithvi Shaw’s career has taken a steep decline over the past 2-3 years. As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season approaches, the opening batter finds himself unsold, with none of the 10 franchises offering him a contract. Issues related to discipline and fitness have been identified as key reasons behind his struggles. However, Shaw’s childhood coach, Santosh Pingutkar, has expressed deep disappointment over the downturn in the young cricketer’s once-promising journey.

Excluded from the Indian team across all formats, Prithvi Shaw is now facing challenges even in securing a spot in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad. With no IPL franchise backing him, the dynamic opener finds himself in a race against time to reignite his career and live up to the immense potential he displayed during his teenage years.

“He is just 25 years old. He still has age in his hand. He can bounce back with hard work if he wants to sustain in competitive cricket,” he told ETV Bharat. “He is just 25 years old. He still has age in his hand. He can bounce back with hard work if he wants to sustain in competitive cricket.”

Prithvi Shaw’s childhood coach believes that his association with “outside groups” has played a significant role in derailing his once-promising career.

“Other activities, everything but his game witnessed a rise. He was more involved in his groups outside cricket. But, no doubt he loves cricket. However, he wasn’t able to convert his love for the game into his efforts. That’s why he is witnessing such a lean phase. He should bounce back as soon as possible. Everyone’s blessings are with him,” added Pingutkar.

Prithvi Shaw’s struggles continued as the Delhi Capitals chose not to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Entering the auction with a base price of INR 75 lakh, the opener failed to attract any bids, leaving him without a team for the upcoming season.
