River Valley to host first home section playoff match Monday

Date:

River Valley High girls tennis continues to reach new heights under head coach Gabe Ramirez, capped by its first-ever home Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV team playoff bid earned in school history.

The Falcons’ next step in 2024 is Monday when it hosts Livingston High School, of the Merced Union High School District, at 2 p.m. in one of four quarterfinals set at home sites in Northern California.

“We, as a team, are very excited to host a playoff match and maybe go further into the playoffs,” Ramirez said in a statement. “Overall, it has been a great year. I feel this has been the most successful River Valley Girls Tennis Team in my 18 years coaching.”

The team has run through Gabe’s daughter for multiple seasons, including this year when Valeria Ramirez not only advanced to the SJS Singles Tournament for a third straight year, but has compiled a 24-3 record – only losing to Roseville’s No. 1.

“She has won 48 sets while only losing 6,” coach Ramirez said.

Valeria Ramirez will be joined at the SJS Tournament by the RV doubles tandem of Sanah Kahlon and Claudia Dudek, who earned a section bid with a win in the Foothill Valley League doubles final against Roseville on its home turf at Johnson Ranch Sports Club in Roseville.

“This is the first doubles team for River Valley Girls Tennis to reach the Sac-Joaquin Sections,” coach Ramirez said.

River Valley heads into Monday’s home playoff match against Livingston at 20-5 overall and 11-3 in its first year in the FVL.
