Union, N.J. (12/11/24) – Rowan University edged the Kean University women’s basketball team by the final of 50-47.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a tight first quarter, the Profs (6-2, 4-0 NJAC) gave themselves a little bit of cushion, outscoring the Cougars, 18-12 in the second stanza, to take a 28-23 lead.
Rowan then surged out of the break and pushed their advantage out to double-digits in the third quarter, outscoring Kean, 14-5.
But the Cougars chipped away in the final 10 minutes and closed to within three (47-4) with just over a minute to go in the contest with a fastbreak bucket from Cara McCoy. The Profs connected on two free throws with 43 seconds left to push the lead out to five. With time not on their side, the Cougars fouled to stop the clock and Rowan connected on just one from the charity stripe to take a six-point lead (50-44). Brittany Graff kept things alive with a trey (50-47) and once again Kean fouled to get the ball back. The Profs missed both, keeping Kean’s chances alive. The Profs fouled to eat up the clock and Kean’s desperation shot fell off the mark at the buzzer.
