Sabres Forward Could Become Interesting Trade Chip

Date:

The Buffalo Sabres have started their season off very rough. They have lost each of their first three games in regulation and have already made things challenging for themselves.

If this trend continues and they find themselves out of the playoff race yet again this season, they could be sellers. When looking at their current roster, one player who could be a solid trade piece in this scenario is winger Jordan Greenway.

Greenway is now in the final season of his current deal and is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA). Thus, he could become a decent trade chip for the Sabres. This is especially so when noting that he is a big, physical forward who works well in the bottom six.

Greenway was also the subject of trade speculation nearing the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. The Sabres also added an array of fellow bottom-six forwards like Sam Lafferty, Jason Zucker, Ryan McLeod, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, and Beck Malenstyn this off-season. Thus, it is fair to wonder if Greenway could be made expendable for the right price.

Greenway could also be a solid NHL-caliber player for the Sabres to include in a trade package to land a legitimate top-six forward. Their offensive struggles out of the gate show that they undoubtedly need one.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens with Greenway this season. Given that he was previously in the rumor mill and is now in the final season of his contract, he could be a player to keep an eye on.
