The Buffalo Sabres played their second pre-season game of the year on Monday (Sept. 23), and it was another successful matchup for the club. They defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets by a 6-1 final score, and several Sabres stood out in the process.
Sabres forward Peyton Krebs was undoubtedly among them.
Krebs showed off his offensive skill in this matchup, posting a goal and an assist on the night. His goal was certainly nice, too, as he showed great confidence with the puck on the breakaway before sniping it home.
This was precisely the kind of game that Krebs needed. He is one of the many Sabres fighting for a spot in the club’s starting lineup, and a performance like this will help his chances. Now, his goal from here will be to build off it.
Krebs, 23, signed a two-year, $2.9 million contract with the Sabres last week. After being the subject of trade rumors throughout the summer, Krebs putting together a solid pre-season performance like this was good to see.
It will now be interesting to see what Krebs does from here. The potential for him to break out offensively is still there, so maybe this will be the year he does.
