Sabres Hit Home Run Acquiring Breakout Forward

Date:

During the off-season, the Buffalo Sabres traded Matthew Savoie to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. Following the move, questions were naturally asked about why the Sabres traded away one of their top prospects for what some felt was an underwhelming return.

However, McLeod is now thriving with the Sabres, and the move is already looking incredibly better for Buffalo than some had feared.

McLeod has cemented himself as a significant player on the Sabres’ roster already. He has made a strong impact offensively, posting six goals and 12 points in his first 18 games. This is after he had 12 goals and 30 points in 81 games last season with Edmonton.

McLeod is also not slowing down, either, as he has one goal and three points over his last two games. Due to his strong play, the 2018 second-round pick has been given reps on the club’s first line with star Tage Thompson sidelined.

However, besides producing well offensively for the Sabres, McLeod’s defensive play also makes him a key part of the club’s penalty kill.

McLeod has been a pleasant surprise for the Sabres this campaign so far. Seeing how the 25-year-old builds on his great start in Buffalo from here will be fascinating.
