Scammers posing as federal agents tricked an elderly woman into handing over $278,000, much of it in the form of gold bars. Now, Ruth Rootenberg is suing her brokerage firm, Charles Schwab, claiming that the company overlooked multiple red flags—and missed its opportunity to protect her from the scammers.
