Patrick Dorgu scored the only goal of the game as Lecce recorded a 1-0 victory away against Venezia in a bottom-of-the-table clash in Serie A, which took the visitors out of the relegation zone and within four points of the top half.
Both teams were in the drop zone before kick-off, with Venezia rooted to the bottom of the table on eight points after their first 12 points of the season, with Lecce two places and one point above them.
Though Venezia dominated possession and bettered their opponents in terms of shots on target, it was Lecce who found the breakthrough after 70 minutes.
Antonio Gallo found himself with plenty of room to run into on the left flank, before sending a well-placed cross-field pass over to Dorgu on the right, who dispatched with a first-time finish from close range.
The 20-year-old’s strike lifted Lecce out of the relegation zone and into 15th place in the league standings, just one point shy of Roma in 12th, three points shy of Torino in 11th and four off Empoli in 10th.
Full-time in Serie A: Venezia 0-1 Lecce
Dorgu 70′.
