Serious collision affects traffic on I-75 in Fayette County. Coroner has been called to scene.

Date:

One person died and two were injured in a serious collision on Interstate 75 southbound at the 102 mile marker in Lexington Saturday afternoon.

The Lexington Police Department received a call about a reckless driver heading south on I-75 at about 4:15 p.m., said Lt. Matt Merker. The crash, which involved three passenger vehicles, was reported soon after.

One person was found dead inside a vehicle, while two people were taken to a hospital. One of them has life-threatening injuries, and the other has injuries that are not life-threatening, Merker said.

All southbound lanes of I-75 remained shut down as of 6:30 p.m., but Merker said he expected the road to be at least partially reopened soon.

Southbound traffic was being diverted off the interstate and onto Athens-Boonesborough Road at Exit 104, Merker said.

He said northbound lanes were unaffected.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported heavy traffic in the area.

Merker said the Lexington Fire Department assisted one person who suffered a diabetic emergency while stuck in traffic.
