Severe weather possible today in northeast Kansas, including high winds

Date:

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory effective today for an area that includes Topeka.

Hail and tornadoes will be possible, forecasters said.

The advisory will last from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will cover parts of east-central and northeast Kansas, the weather service said on the website of its Topeka office.

“Expect winds sustained between 20 and 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph,” it said.

The National Weather Service’s Topeka office placed on its website this graphic sharing information about the possibility for high wind gusts today in parts of northeast and east-central Kansas.

Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible between 3 and 6 p.m., the weather service said.

“Primary hazards are quarter-size hail and damaging wind gusts to 60 mph,” it said. “While less likely, a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.”
