South Bend Saint Joseph finishes top 10 at IHSAA girls golf state finals

The IHSAA girls golf season wrapped up Saturday with two South Bend area teams finishing in the top 12 at the state championship meet at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel.

Saint Joseph finished 10th with a two-day score of 702, while Northridge tied for 12th with a 714. The Huskies were in ninth place after day one Friday, while the Raiders stayed in its 12th-place positioning from day one to day two.

There was a chance the area could get an individual state champion Friday with Saint Joseph junior Marley Dunham four shots behind the leader, plus Northridge junior Alex Reschly and NorthWood junior Sophie Richmond five behind each. Richmond ended up being the best finisher of the trio with a plus-11 score, ending tied for 14th and earning all-state honors.

Reschly also cracked the top 20 by finishing plus-13 for the two days. Dunham wound up plus-20.

Also playing for Saint Joseph were freshman Lucy Dunham (+27), sophomore Reese Hull (+30), junior Bella Jeffery (+58) and junior Sydney Schmeltz (+59).

Along with Reschly, Northridge had senior Addy Irving (+39), senior Lizzy Irving (+41) and junior Macey Riegsecker (+45) play both days. Freshman Callie Miller shot plus-38 on Friday and freshman Amery Rost plus-42 Saturday.

Penn senior Scarlett Biever was the lone other South Bend area golfer to play, finishing tied for 27th with a two-day total of 161 (+17).

Zionsville freshman Taylor Snivley shot a blistering 64 Saturday to win individual medalist honors by five strokes. Her performance also helped the Eagles win the team championship, with Noblesville right behind as state runner-up.
