South Carolina is less than a week away from beginning its title defense against Michigan in Las Vegas. All month, GamecockCentral has profiled each member of the team and how she will contribute this season.

Sakima Walker (Super Senior, Post, 6-5)
31 games (1 start), 2.0 ppg, 1.3 rpg

Player profile
Waker has good size and is a capable shooter for her position. She is also a solid rebounder. Walker didn’t play as much as she expected last season but took on a sort of mother role. She then took her time before deciding to come back for another season.

Preseason assessment
Walker didn’t play against Clayton State but is expected to be ready for the regular season. She had six points and three rebounds against Memphis.

Burning question: Can Walker eliminate the mistakes?
Walker’s biggest issue has been a propensity for fouls and turnovers. It was hard to play her in close games because she couldn’t be trusted to take care of the ball or avoid silly fouls. If she can eliminate that, there will be a role for Walker this season.
