Spurs left back Destiny Udogie talks Roma clash, Vicario absence

Spurs left back Destiny Udogie spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against Roma at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Italian international weighed in on his team’s struggles and also discussed the absence of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who underwent ankle surgery on Monday.

“It’s been difficult because we haven’t really found the right consistency but we’re working here every day to find the consistency we need,” began Udogie.

“Every game we try to build momentum, coming from a big win last week, obviously it’s a big game tomorrow (against Roma) and we will try to build momentum.”

Fraser Forster will start in goal for the Londoners following the injury Vicario suffered on Sunday against Manchester City.

“Obviously we’re going to miss Guglielmo because in the group he’s a great leader, a great player so he’s going to be missed,” he commented.

“During the game he had a bad fracture of his ankle but to keep going, he showed a lot of character. I spoke to him the day after, I asked him how he was doing and he told me he had an operation so he’s going to be out for a while so we are just waiting for him to be back.”

He added, “Honestly I always knew Vicario was different, he’s a great guy with a really strong mentality. For him to play 60 minutes with a fractured ankle, it says a lot about him and I really respect that.”

“As a big brother, obviously it’s hard to have an operation but I just wish him the best and can’t wait for him to be back. Fraser is a leader as well, he’s been here and he’s been playing football for a while so he’s going to help us a lot and he’s going to show his quality every game.”
