Stats: Why Barcelona’s 24-year-old forward is the ultimate game-changer from the bench

Ferran Torres has consistently proven his ability to change games by coming off the bench and this trait is not only visible with Barcelona but also with the Spanish national team.

During the current international break against Switzerland, Torres came on at half-time and contributed both a goal and an assist.

His knack for turning things around as a substitute is often seen either through his individual performances or by enhancing the overall play of the team.

A breakdown of Torres’ performance

Since joining Barcelona, Torres has made 116 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 13 assists. Out of these, his impact as a substitute stands out, with 10 contributions coming off the bench, reports Mundo Deportivo.

In the 2021-2022 season, he made one of these substitute contributions, followed by four in the 2022-2023 campaign. His effectiveness continued with another four in 2023-2024 and one so far in the early part of the 2024-2025 season.

One of the most memorable moments came against Cadiz, where he needed just five minutes to score after coming on.

Another standout performance was in the 2022-2023 Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen, where he managed to score a goal and provide an assist in only 25 minutes on the pitch.

Overall, Torres has had a direct impact in 31 of the matches he has played for Barcelona, which accounts for 34.8% of his total appearances. He has scored in 17 of these games, provided only an assist in 8, and both scored and assisted in 6 matches.

Under Hansi Flick, Torres has earned a starting position in three out of four La Liga matches this season, though in the game against Valladolid, he came on as a substitute, scoring a goal and providing an assist in just 17 minutes.

Torres continues to demonstrate his value to both Barcelona and the national team, with his ability to deliver when coming off the bench making him a crucial asset for his managers.
