Steve Pikiell on Rutgers basketball’s wild win, Dylan Harper’s buzzer beater: ‘Didn’t play our best game’

Date:

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Behind a game-winner from Dylan Harper and a big first half from Ace Bailey, Rutgers basketball has consecutive wins. Saturday’s 66-63 win over Seton Hall was a bit of a throwback performance from the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers got defensive in the second half in what was arguably their best 20 minutes of basketball of the season. A stifling defense from Rutgers limited Seton Hall to just 42.9 percent shooting in the second half, down from 50 percent in the first half.

The win improves Rutgers to 7-4 (1-1 Big Ten) on the season and gives them consecutive wins following a midweek win at Penn State. Harper, who started the game slow, finished with a game-high 24 points. His game-winning three-point shot saw him go coast-to-coast to break the deadlock for the Scarlet Knights.

For much of the first half, Bailey was the Rutgers offense. He had 21 points but scored all nine of Rutgers’ points in the final 5:35 of the first half to keep things close until halftime.
