Susanville Travel Stop Project Revealed at City Council Meeting – SierraDailyNews.com

Susanville residents have heard and talked about the possibility of a large, commercial truck stop in Susanville ever since a survey by consultant Buxton advised the Susanville City Council our city was a good place to own a gas station.

Since then, the rumor of a large truck stop has simmered in the social media and community pots for years. At Wednesday’s, Feb. 5, City Council meeting, City Manager Dan Newton finally revealed details of this years-in-the-making project to the public.

Newton announced a Notice of Preparation and Scoping Meeting for proposed The Susanville Travel Stop, located just outside the city limits on Highway 36. Newton said the city would be preparing an environmental impact report the project that includes a truck stop, filing stations, annexation of some property adjacent to the city.

“That’s a big project we’re working on to solve,” Newton said

A virtual public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 via Zoom.

Public comment on the project opened Feb. 3 Monday, Feb. 3 and will close at 5 p.m. March 5.

Copies of current and future environmental documents related to the Susanville Travel Stop will be available for review at the following locations: City Hall, 66 N Lassen Street, Susanville, or online at cityofsusanville.net/rooptown/planning/.

All comments on environmental issues received during the public comment period will be considered in the preparation of the Draft EIR, which is anticipated to be available for public review in summer 2025.
