GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A suspect was arrested on New Year’s Day after allegedly assaulting a man, barricading himself and starting a fire inside an apartment.
The incident occurred around 11:05 a.m., Wednesday when the Grand Junction Police Department responded to an assault in progress at the Grand Manor Apartments, 2828 Orchard Ave.
GJPD alleged the reporting party – a female resident – said the male suspect, in violation of a restraining order, forcibly entered her second-floor apartment and assaulted another man. The suspect reportedly took out a knife before the woman and man fled the apartment.
The suspect then allegedly barricaded himself in the apartment as authorities arrived, the police department said. Officers tried to contact the man while a fire was ignited within the residence.
The suspect allegedly jumped out of the second-floor window where law enforcement quickly took him into custody.
Justin Vicino, 44, was arrested on multiple unrelated warrants and violation of a protection order. Additional charges are pending.
The Grand Junction Fire Department extinguished the apartment blaze. GJFD also transported Vicino to the hospital for serious bodily injuries sustained from the alleged fire and fall.
The male victim, who was allegedly assaulted by Vicino, also went to the hospital for minor injuries.
GJPD said it believes this is an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the community.
