First Half

6:49 remaining: Syracuse 34, Clarion 18

The Orange are shooting 61% (14-23) thus far. JJ Starling (9) and Eddie Lampkin (8) are your leading scorers.

SU had a bit of a defensive lapse on the last two possessions that I’m sure Adrian Autry is addressing in the huddle during this timeout.

10 players have already played for the Orange. Wondering if we’ll see Naheem McLeod at some point. He’s suited up, warmed up and by all accounts is healthy and ready to go.

11:45 remaining: Syracuse 25, Clarion 7

Nine players have already made their way onto the court for Syracuse.

Eddie Lampkin leads the Orange with eight points. As you can imagine, Clarion doesn’t have anyone that can match his 6-11, 265-pound frame, but he’s shown some good footwork and crisp moves in the paint.

13:57 remaining: Syracuse 21, Clarion 7

Donnie Freeman gets a nice one-handed slam in his first action as an Orange man.

Hofstra transfer Jaquan Carlos has picked up six assists already for SU.

JJ Starling leads the early pack with seven points.

15:59 remaining: Syracuse 10, Clarion 2

Lucas Taylor and Eddie Lampkin have both put home some thunder jams to wake up the small matinee crowd at the dome.

Petar Majstrovic has picked up two early fouls after starting the game at forward for the Orange.

Pregame

Interesting. We’ll keep an eye on it at tip and introductions, but If the scoreboard is listing the starters accurately here at the Dome, SU will start JJ Starling, Lucas Taylor, Jaquan Carlos, Petar Majstrovic and Eddie Lampkin.

Update: Chance Westry will not play today, per Mike Waters. He’s been battling a illness during preseason practices. He told us at media day that he would be good to go for the season and that his illness “was not serious.”

Eddie Lampkin was pretty fired up to be here today bright and early and has a stated mission for the Orange thi season.

Is it basketball season yet?

As a matter of fact, it is. Well … sort of. It is an exhibition game at the dome here today but, hey, if the Orange are suited up and are going to play, we may as well check it out.

We’ll get our first look at seven new faces, four transfers and three freshmen, brought in to replace six departures from the 2023-24 Orange including former point guard Judah Mintz, who turned pro after his sophomore season and forward/center Maliq Brown, who is now at Duke.

Among the new faces are Eddie Lampkin, a 6-foot-11 transfer from Colorado, is the presumed starter at center. He averaged 10.6 points and 7.0 rebounds at Colorado last year.

Jaquan Carlos, a 6-foot senior from Hofstra, seems like the probable starter at the point. He dished out 6.3 assists per game last season.

6-9 freshman Donnie Freeman, who made the 2024 McDonald’s All-America team; and Jyare Davis, a 6-7 senior transfer from Delaware. Davis is more physical and has more experience. Freeman oozes potential.

Others new players to watch: freshmen guard Elijah Moore, an elite shooter; and 6-8 forward Petar Majstorovic and transfer Lucas Taylor (Georgia State).

Clarion is a Division II school located in Clarion, Pa. The Golden Eagles went 8-20 last season
