Pregame
The Syracuse Orange opens the 2024-25 season at home against the neighboring Le Moyne Dolphins.
Historically, SU has dominated this matchup. Syracuse has never lost a regular-season game against the Dolphins, with the most recent regular-season meeting coming in 2008, when the Orange won, 85-51.
Of course, Le Moyne memorably pulled the upset a year later in an exhibition shocker in the Carrier Dome.
Prior to that regular-season matchup in 2008, the teams had not met since Dec. 29, 1994.
The Orange is coming off a dominant 96-51 pre-season win against DII Slippery Rock. The squad made 15 3-pointers and shot 47% from distance. Despite losing productive players such as Judah Mintz to the NBA draft and Maliq Brown to Duke, SU managed to reload in the offseason, giving the squad multiple options on the offensive end.
Le Moyne, playing its second season in Division I, lost its two best scorers to graduation. Kaiyem Cleary and Luke Sutherland (West Genesee) were All-NEC First and Second Team respectively and both averaged at least 15 points a night.
In an exhibition game against Mansfield University last week, Le Moyne won, 116-67.
