Second half

13:28 remaining: Syracuse 35, Georgia Tech 30

Lampkin makes the quick touch pass to Davis on the opposite block, who finishes with the left.

Starling with a quick burst of speed off the bounce to get to the basket and finishes with the layup high off the glass.

15:50 remaining: Syracuse 31, Georgia Tech 30

Taylor with a strong drive in the lane to finish at the cup with the left. Now up to 10 points.

Lampkin gets an early post touch in the second half and finishes with the short hook.

Davis cleans up the offensive glass and goes back up to score.

Halftime: Syracuse 25, Georgia Tech 24

From opening tip, the Orange have been disruptive defensively and has repeatedly made things difficult for the Yellow Jackets. That’s why the visiting squad is shooting under 30 percent from the field at the half, and more importantly, a main reason why Syracuse leads 25-25.

Give a lot of credit as well to Chris Bell and Lucas Taylor, who contributed seven and eight points respectively by way of three’s and mid-range buckets.

Similarly, J.J. Starling also scored eight in the first half.

Georgia Tech has managed to be pesky as well defensively, forcing ten Syracuse turnovers in the half.

Jaeden Mustaf leads the way for the Yellow Jackets with eight points at the break.

For SU to close out this contest and win their first ACC game of the year, they’ll need to continue to bring pressure defensively and find a way to hit perimeter shots.

The Orange are shooting 3-13 from beyond the arc, many of those being wide open or lightly contested looks. If those shots begin dropping, SU will have a great chance of registering a win in conference play.

First half

Starling comes off the dribble hand-off to make the right-handed floater while getting fouled. He missed the extra point opportunity.

3:06 remaining: Syracuse 25, Georgia Tech 21

Eddie Lampkin gets up to prevent the poster dunk with the massive rejection at the rim.

Starling finds a way to make a near-impossible layup at the rim with the Yellow Jackets defender smothering him.

Taylor drills another triple for the Orange from a few steps beyond the three-point line.

On the next play, Taylor puts the ball on the floor and gets the soft touch on the runner in the paint.

7:54 remaining: Syracuse 16, Georgia Tech 11

Chris Bell gets his first points off the bench as he knocks down the tough and-one jumper. He missed out on the three-point play with a miss at the free throw line.

Bell gets his first three pointer of the game, and more importantly, his first three in the Dome since back in November against Youngstown State.

Another bucket for Bell, this time he gets into the paint and rises up for the short jumper. Seven early points for him.

11:49 remaining: Syracuse 9, Georgia Tech 8

Jyare Davis, who’s been scoreless in his last couple contests, bumped his defender and knocked down the turnaround fade.

The Orange’s turnover woes are making an appearance early. Three straight for SU and Georgia Tech is a point away from tying the game early.

14:43 remaining: Syracuse 7, Georgia Tech 2

J.J. Starling, who’s back for his second game since his hand injury, scores first with a driving attack to the rim.

On the next play, Lucas Taylor, who’s been inserted into the starting lineup, knocked down a three. He’s now made 11 of his last 20 three-pointers.

Starling gets into the lane and drops in the high-arching tear drop.

Pregame

Syracuse (6-8, 0-3 ACC) returns to the JMA Wireless Dome to host Georgia Tech (8-7, 2-2 ACC).

The series between the Orange and the Yellow Jackets is tied 9-9 through 18 meetings so far. Syracuse’s last win against Georgia Tech came in a road victory on January 21, 2023. SU also has taken care of the Yellow Jackets more often than not when in the Dome, winning five out of eight throughout the series.

Last game for Syracuse marked its third consecutive loss in conference play in a 90-74 loss against Florida State. Chris Bell led the way for the Orange while J.J. Starling, who returned from an extended hiatus due to injury, chipped in 12 points.

The Orange, however, will be without Donnie Freeman tonight due to a lower right leg injury, per a statement from the school. The freshman had a double-double against the Seminoles and has been one of the more consistent options on the team both in play and health.

Similarly, Chance Westry has been ruled out for the contest due to medical reasons. Westry has only played in three games this season, and in none of them did he play more than a couple minutes. The 6-6 sophomore has missed the better part of two years due to injuries in his knees.

The Yellow Jackets are coming to Upstate New York on a three-game winning streak. Their latest win was an 85-64 win over Boston College at home.

Leading the way for them in scoring is Lance Terry at 15.6 points per contest. Baye Ndongo and Javian McCollum both average just over 12 points a game, so there’s multiple ways this Georgia Tech offense can attack.
