Tampa man charged after smuggling 2 100-gallon tanks of fuel in van: deputies

Date:

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa man was charged after Hernando County deputies found two 100-gallon caged tanks containing fuel in his vehicle on Tuesday.

Dennis Anthony Miles, 25, was pulled over in the area of East Jefferson Street and Emerson Road in Brooksville.

W. Sligh Ave. shut down near ZooTampa after report of armed suspect: TPD

The deputy discovered a large caged tank, with pumps and hoses, holding an unknown fluid. Miles told officials that the equipment was HVAC-related and couldn’t provide additional information, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

A search of his van resulted in two 100-gallon tanks filled with what they believed to be cooking oil — that can be used as biofuel in diesel vehicles, investigators said.

Miles was arrested and charged with transporting dangerous material/unlawful conveyance of fuel. He is being held at the Hernando County Detention Center without bond.

This is an active investigation.
