Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul returning to Delray Beach Open tennis tournament

Date:

Top American Taylor Fritz, fresh off his first appearance in a Grand Slam final in Flushing Meadows in September, is coming back to Delray Beach in February.

The 26-year-old Miami resident has won the last two Delray Beach Open titles and will vie to become the first player to accomplish a three-peat at the February ATP event along Atlantic Avenue. The tall and lanky Fritz zoomed up the rankings to No. 6 in the world.

Tommy Paul, a longtime Boca Raton resident who made the Delray finals last February, also will return for another crack at his first Delray title starting Feb. 7.

Paul won an ATP event in Stockholm, Sweden, last weekend, his third ATP title of the year. He lost to Fritz in the rain-delayed Delray finals in February.

Last February, Fritz became just the second player to win back-to-back DBO titles in the 32 years of the tournament. Fritz enjoyed a solid year as he went on to make the U.S. Open finals, losing to Jannik Sinner.

In doing so, Fritz became the first American man to reach an Open final since Andy Roddick in 2006. Fritz is expected to qualify for the year-end ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.

Fritz and Paul, ranked 12th, teamed up to win the doubles Olympic bronze medal in Paris in August.
