New Tazewell County Board chairman Brett Grimm presided over his first meeting Monday with a newly reorganized County Board.
Grimm replaces former chairman Dave Zimmerman, who announced his retirement last month. Grimm was elected to the position last month after his opponent, former County Board member Roy Paget, withdrew from the race.
Grimm served as a Tazewell County Board member for 10 years before being elected Tazewell County auditor in 2020. He will remain in his role as auditor until the end of the year.
What Brett Grimm had to say about his role on the board
Grimm said in his work as a contractor, he is accustomed to working from blueprints and has been working with Tazewell County administrator Mike Deluhery to develop a blueprint for Tazewell County government.
“We are going to have an outside firm come in and help us with a strategic plan for the next two to five years so that things that were done by the previous board are not lost or ignored,” Grimm added. “This is not a time when we’re going to necessarily change everything or wash it away.
“I’d like to work together with everyone to try to make this happen. They’re going to start in January talking to board members and elected officials about how we can make some progress and put this together so we can all get behind it and move forward.”
