TCU men’s basketball lands commitment from Duncanville star guard

Date:

TCU men’s basketball landed one of the best players in Texas Wednesday afternoon.

Duncanville star guard Kayden “Bugg” Edwards committed to the Horned Frogs on the On3Sports’ YouTube channel, just days after completing his official visit to TCU’s campus. TCU beat out Colorado for his services and Edwards also took official visits to LSU, USC and Oklahoma State according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot-2 guard is ranked No. 67 in the Class of 2025 and the No. 7 player in the state in the 247Sports composite rankings. Edwards averaged 23.2 points and 2.4 assists for the Panthers last season while shooting 45% from the field.

Edwards’ breakout season came after he remained patient playing on a loaded squad. In 2022, Edwards was the fourth-leading scorer during the Panthers’ 29-1 season in 2022-23 when they were led by future NBA lottery pick Ron Holland and K.J. Lewis, a top-100 player that signed with Arizona.

The strength of Edwards’ game is his shooting with the ability to knock down long range shots and score in the mid-range. While he is a shooting guard, Edwards can thrive on or off the ball according to one recruiting analyst.

“His ability to shoot the basketball is what makes Edwards a consistently productive performer,” 247Sports analyst Brandon Jenkins said in a scouting report. “His range is deep and his release is quick as he is a consistent weapon from behind the arc. He can shoot it off screens, off the catch, off the bounce, and is one who surprises most when he misses a long-range attempt.”

Edwards is also now one of the most decorated recruits in TCU basketball history. He’s the third highest-ranked recruit to commit to the program dating back to at least 2003, moving one spot ahead of current Horned Frogs freshman Micah Robinson.

After signing the best high school class in program history last season, Edwards being the first recruit to commit to TCU for the 2025 cycle is just the latest sign that the Horned Frogs starting to recruit at a different level.
