Terre Haute recognized for Best College Town, Best Recreational Golf Course

Date:

Terre Haute was recently recognized in two distinctions — Best College Town and Best Recreational Golf Course — in Indiana.

In Midwest Traveler’s inaugural “Best in Indiana” edition, it named Terre Haute as the Best College Town in the state. It notes the area’s four higher education institutions — Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Ivy Tech Community College — helps shape the community, provide education and contribute to the Wabash Valley’s social and economic health.

Midwest Traveler recently named Hulman Links, an 18-hole golf course on Terre Haute’s east side, as the Best Recreational Golf Course in Indiana.

“Our colleges are an integral part of what makes Terre Haute thrive,” said Karen Dyer, executive director of the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau. “To be recognized as the best college town in Indiana is a celebration of our schools and a testament to how deeply they are woven into the character of our community.”

The colleges enhance tourism through their roles in hosting sporting events, performing arts showcases and academic conferences while also being destinations for their art collections and scenic campus trails, a release states.

Midwest Traveler also named Hulman Links, an 18-hole golf course on Terre Haute’s east side, as the Best Recreational Golf Course in Indiana.

The course is known for its challenging layout for golf enthusiasts, according to the release. It is also the home of the golf programs for ISU, RHIT and SMWC.

“It’s an incredible honor for Terre Haute to be recognized as the Best College Town and for Hulman Links to be named the Best Recreational Golf Course in Indiana”, stated Mayor Brandon Sakbun. “As mayor, I’m proud to see others recognize what we’ve always known about ‘Terredise’ — that it’s a special place where education, culture and recreation come together to create an extraordinary community. Hulman Links is a jewel in our city’s crown, and this recognition is a testament to the hard work of everyone who makes it such an exceptional experience for visitors and residents alike.”

The inaugural Best in Indiana edition of Midwest Traveler will be issued in October.
