Texas A&M men’s basketball 13th in preseason AP poll

Date:

(KBTX) – Texas A&M men’s basketball garnered the No. 13 ranking in the preseason Associated Press Top 25.

It ties the Aggies highest-ever preseason ranking, when the Aggies entered the 2007 season ranked 13th. Last season, the Aggies entered the season ranked 15th, but finished not ranked. Ultimately, A&M advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

A&M has earned a preseason position in the AP poll seven times, but only maintained a final ranking in any of those seasons in 2007.

The Aggies return seven of their top eight scorers, with only Tyrece Radford moving on due to expired eligibility. A&M returns last season’s preseason player of the year, guard Wade Taylor IV, who averaged 19.1 points per game last season.

Over the offseason, the Aggies added guard Zhuric Phelps (14.8 ppg at SMU), guard CJ Wilcher (7.7 ppg at Nebraska) and center Pharrel Payne (10 ppg at Minnesota) to the roster.
