News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M women’s basketball head coach Joni Taylor announced the promotion of Nancy Mulkey to Director of Video and Player Development Monday afternoon.
“I am very proud to have Nancy continue her career here at Texas A&M,” Taylor said. “She has a bright future and has been a huge piece of our program these past two years as a graduate assistant. I can’t wait to see how she continues to grow and impact the lives of our student-athletes in her new role.”
Mulkey served as a graduate assistant the previous two years and will now handle all video technology and film distribution, while helping student-athletes in their on-court skill development.
“I’m incredibly honored and excited for the promotion and to continue learning under coach Taylor,” Mulkey said. “This is a new chapter in my career, and I feel fortunate to be part of a program so committed to excellence on and off the court. I’m thrilled to continue my journey at Texas A&M and look forward to helping get the program back to competing for championships.”
The Houston native was one of the most decorated players in Rice women’s basketball history. Mulkey lettered for the Owls from 2019-21 and capped off her career at Rice by helping the program win the 2021 WNIT Championship, while taking home MVP honors for the tournament in the process. Mulkey led the NCAA in blocked shots per game (3.92) during the 2018-19 season and ranked first in career field goal percentage (.551) and blocks per game (3.5) in Owl history. Additionally, Mulkey tied a Conference-USA record by being named as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year three times.
Mulkey ended her collegiate career with the Washington Huskies in 2021-22 where she earned honorable mention honors on the All-Pac-12 and All-Defensive Teams. After Washington, Mulkey was signed to the 2022 training camp roster of the Las Vegas Aces.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Rice in 2020 and earned her first master’s from Washington in intercollegiate athletic leadership in 2022. Mulkey completed her second master’s in recreation and youth development in the spring of 2024 from Texas A&M.
