Texas basketball has won seven consecutive games but faces its toughest test of the season against two-time defending champion Connecticut Sunday, 4 p.m., at home.
Can the Longhorns (7-1) make a national statement in Moody Center, which hasn’t hosted a nonconference matchup of this magnitude since its opening in 2022? In its last game, Texas beat North Carolina State on Wednesday 63-59 behind 18 points from Tre Johnson and 13 points from Jordan Pope. Connecticut (6-3) followed up a rare three-game losing streak with two consecutive wins, most recently beating Baylor by four Wednesday.
Junior forward Alex Karaban leads the Huskies at 15.9 points per game. He’s shooting 46.8% from the deep. Freshman phenom Tre Johnson leads Texas at 20.8 points per game while shooting 44.6% from 3-point range.

Texas forward Jayson Kent will miss his fifth straight game with a wrist injury. The 6-foot-8 forward, who transferred into the Longhorns’ program from Indiana State this past offseason, is averaging 6.5 point and 2.8 rebounds in 17.8 minutes off the bench.
