TGL looking for extras to fill seats for 3 days of dress rehearsals; not to watch PGA Tour pros

Date:

If you want to experience the inside of the 1,500-seat SoFi Center, make a little money and take home some free swag, TGL is looking for you.

The tech-infused league owned by TMRW sports and created by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy is looking for “seat fillers” for three days of dress-rehearsal matches starting Saturday to test the technology inside the Palm Beach Gardens venue.

Although you will be watching golfers hits shots those three days; it will not be those golfers.

“TGL is holding dress rehearsal matches over the next few days, including broadcasting testing with an audience in the stands and taping elements for in-venue and broadcast segments,” a TGL spokesperson told The Palm Beach Post. “This is a standard practice for the predevelopment of television programs.”

Golfers Wyndham Clark, center, and Rickie Fowler prepare to hit the ball out of the bunkers during media day at the SoFi Center, the home of TGL, the interactive golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy on December 18, 2024, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The league is tapping into the vast local golf community for the dress rehearsals, including local professionals and mini tour players. Those who attend as seat fillers Monday will be part of an opening for the ESPN broadcast.

So do not expect to see Woods or McIlroy or Xander Schauffele or Collin Morikawa or Justin Thomas or any of the other 24 PGA Tour pros from the league during testing. Extras are wanted for rehearsals only, not for regular-season matches.

The practice is standard at award shows, sporting events and other special performances, some needed to fill a venue prior to an event to get a feel of how it will come across with the seats occupied, like TGL is doing. Others hire extras to fill empty seats during the performance, like the Academy Awards.

Various web sites specifically seek seat fillers for such events. TGL contracted a third party, Penguin Entertainment, which advertised for “energetic golf fans” for an “urgent casting call.”

First two TGL matches sold out

TGL will have no trouble filling seats for the real competition, at least for the first few weeks. Tuesday’s inaugural match between New York Golf Club and The Bay GC, and the Jan. 14 match between Woods’ Jupiter Links and Los Angeles are sold out.

SoFi Center is on the campus of Palm Beach State College.

Those interested in being a seat filler Saturday, Sunday or Monday can apply via email at: events@tmrwsportsgroup.com.
