The latest South Carolina Gamecocks news from the last week, starting with the football team’s loss to the LSU Tigers on Saturday.

Shane Beamer’s team fell by a final score of 36-33, but there was far more to the day’s story.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers, defensive lineman TJ Sanders, and wide receiver Jared Brown all left the game with injuries. It is unclear how ready the three players will be for the Gamecocks’ next game, but Coach Beamer called all three of them some variation of “fine” or “OK” during a Sunday update.

Officiating played a huge role in the loss, as well. The Gamecocks had two defensive touchdowns wiped from the scoreboard following questionable penalties, and several other notable calls went against USC.

After one of the practices leading up to the game, a Gamecock walk-on was put on scholarship.

Reserve tight end and special teams contributor Moe Brown earned a scholarship. He rewarded Coach Beamer’s trust with a blocked punt on Saturday.

For last week’s performances against Kentucky, two Gamecocks were honored by the SEC.

Safety Nick Emmanwori and punter Kai Kroeger were selected as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week and the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Emmanwori also was included on Pro Football Focus’ National Team of the Week.

A major South Carolina football recruiting target announced his decommitment from another school and then visited Columbia.

4-star Palmetto State native Mikkel Skinner, a hybrid tight end/wide receiver, backed off of his pledge to the Cincinnati Bearcats. He visited the Gamecocks two weeks ago, saw Carolina play again last weekend in Kentucky, and was back in Columbia this weekend.

A pair of South Carolina basketball commitments will play in Columbia this winter.

Eli Ellis and Hayden Assemian will bring their Moravian Prep squad to the Midlands for The Bash tournament and showcase during Christmas break.

Gamecock legend A’ja Wilson broke another all-time WNBA record.

The Las Vegas Aces star set a new record for points scored in a single season, besting Jewell Loyd’s 939 points in 2023. Wilson also became the first player ever to score 1000 points in a single season.

South Carolina basketball forward Sania Feagin earned a gold medal for Team USA.

Playing with the U23 3×3 World Cup team, Feagin was the leading scorer as the United States went 7-0 and won the title.

Carolina will play in a charity preseason exhibition in an NBA arena.

The Gamecocks will face off with the Memphis Tigers for a preseason scrimmage at FedEx Forum. The exhibition will be part of the Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic.

A 5-star Gamecock target included Dawn Staley’s team on her list of top schools, and two recruiting targets announced their college decisions.

5-star 2026 forward Olivia Vukosa included Carolina among her top-16.

’25 5-star guard Divine Bourrage committed to the LSU Tigers.

4-star 2025 point guard and Columbia native Lauren Jacobs pledged her services to the Ole Miss Rebels.

The full SEC schedule has been released for Paul Mainieri’s South Carolina baseball team.

The Gamecocks’ SEC schedule can be seen here.

The Gamecocks also picked up a commitment in the class of 2026.

Infielder Gavin Byrd of Lakeland, Florida announced his decision on social media on Sunday night.
