The UNC basketball program is showing early interest in this Class of 2027 big man

Date:

The year 2027 seems like a long time away for most people. However, in the world of college basketball recruiting, you’re always forced to worry about the present but keep tabs on the future as well.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have been doing just that. According to HS Top Recruiting, the Tar Heels have already made a visit to see a Class of 2027 standout.

That standout is Obinna Ekezie Jr., a 7-foot big man from Napa, California. The Prolific Prep standout already has five scholarship offers on the table, with the latest offer coming in from the Kentucky Wildcats.

Now, there will be people who will complain about the Tar Heels failing to bring in top-tier big man talent via the transfer portal and the recruiting trail. However, it isn’t due to a lack of trying, as the Tar Heels have been in the mix for essentially every notable big man out there.

In the recruiting world, you can’t force student-athletes to all want to be Tar Heels.

North Carolina hopes that Ekezie Jr. does end up wanting to be a part of the UNC basketball program in the future. While he has quite some time left during his high school career, the Tar Heels are wasting no time showing him that they have interest in him as his recruitment starts to heat up.

Don’t be surprised if an offer from the UNC basketball program is brewing, and don’t be shocked when a handful of more offers start to roll in for arguably one of the top players in the Class of 2027.
