The world’s 100 best hotels have been crowned

Date:

How many hotels do you reckon there are in the world? The UN World Travel Organisation estimates there are around 700,000, but others think it might be closer to 1 million. In other words, there’s absolutely loads of them.

That’s why, when it called on 750 travel writers and hotel professionals to get their opinion, Fodor’s Travel opted not to rank its list of the 100 best hotels in the world – it’s just too difficult.

But maybe that approach makes sense – we all have different tastes and ideas of luxury, after all: some of us will feel most at ease in sleek, minimalist rooms at the top of skyrise buildings, others prefer plush furnishings and warm colours in a rustic lakeside villa.

Whatever your preference, there’s sure to be a hotel or two on this list that’ll have you considering how much it matters if the rooms are a little out of budget. Here are some of our favourites from Fodor’s Travel’s top 100 list (the full version of which you can view here).
