The 2025 PGA Tour Champions Qualifying Tournament Final Stage concluded Friday and after four days and 72 holes, there are five new members of the senior circuit.
The week started with 78 hopefuls at TPC Scottsdale’s Champions course, which sits across the road from the Stadium course, host of the PGA Tour’s WM Phoenix Open.
The week ended with just five tour cards for 2025 being earned for access into open, full-field events. Those who finish sixth through 30th will be eligible to compete in open qualifiers on PGA Tour Champions in 2025.
Falling just short of the top five was Angel Cabrera, who had a final-round 67 but couldn’t shake off his second-round 73. He finished at 12 under, 12 shots off the lead but more importantly, two shots out of one of the five spots.
Here’s a closer look at those five who will play on the 50-and-over circuit next year.
Soren Kjeldsen
Kjeldsen doesn’t turn 50 until May but he knows he’ll have status on the PGA Tour Champions the minute he blows out those candles. He had an outstanding week in the Arizona desert, posting scores of 64-65-65-66 en route to medalist honors. He did so in blowout fashion, finishing 24 under, eight shots better than second place. Kjeldsen has four wins on the DP World Tour, mostly recently in 2015. He made 712 starts on the Euro circuit, the third-most starts in that tour’s history.
Freddie Jacobson
Freddie Jacobson won the 2011 Travelers Championship for his lone PGA Tour victory in 331 starts. He was paired with Kjeldsen for all four days but couldn’t quite keep up the pace. Nonetheless, Jacobson posted scores of 65-66-66-71 to finish 16 under, eight back of the lead but comfortably in solo second, two ahead of a three-way tie for third. Jacobson turned 50 in September and earned a top-10 in his Champions tour debut at the Constellation Furyk & Friends a month later.
Mark Walker
Mark Walker improved his scores by a whopping four shots in each of the second and third rounds. He opened with a 72, then shot 68, then shot the low round of Thursday’s third round with a 64, to charge up the leaderboard. He was on track for a second straight 64 but a double-bogey on the final hole meant a 66 and a 14-under finish. That put him in a three-way tie for third but, it was also enough to clinch a tour card.
Felipe Aguilar
Aguilar shot all four days in the 60s, capped by a final-round 68 to finish 14 under and also tie for third to clinch his card. It was steady as it goes for Aguilar on Friday, with four birdies, one bogey and 13 pars. Aguilar, from Chile, turned 50 in November. He played in two PGA Tour events in his career, the last one in 2015. He has also played in one Korn Ferry Tour event but has yet to tee it up on the Champoins tour. He has two wins on the European circuit.
Brendan Jones
Aussie Brendan Jones also doesn’t turn 50 until after the change of the calendar. He shot a closing 68 Friday to climb into that tie for third and safely inside the top 5 for a 2025 tour card. After making the turn in 37, Jones got hot when he needed it the most, making birdies on Nos. 10, 13, 14, 17 and 18, the last birdie sealing the deal. He, Aguilar and Walker were all 10 shots back of the lead but they were most importantly one shot ahead of everyone below the top 5.
