Birmingham-Southern College survived a late surge by Denison University to close their super regional series with a 7-6 win Saturday, propelling the school, which is on the cusp of closure, into the Division III College World Series.
In Game 2 of the best-of-three series, Birmingham Southern led 5-1 in the fifth inning before Denison added three runs over the next two innings to trim their deficit to one. BSC (30-14) added a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but Denison (42-6) did the same in the bottom of the frame. With two outs and runners on first and third, Denison appeared poised to force Game 3, but senior Owen Wilson grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the game. Birmingham-Southern won 10-1 on Friday in Game 1.
