In a recent interview, one of Pitt basketball’s top recruiting targets identified a date in which he is thinking he will commit to a school.
After taking an official visit to Vanderbilt this past weekend, 2025 guard Derek Dixon told Adam Zagoria and Sam Lance of ZagsBlog, “Sept. 27 is the date I was thinking,” regarding a commitment timeline.
Pitt’s head coach Jeff Capel and associate head coach Milan Brown will be down in D.C. this upcoming week to see Dixon. He took an official visit to Pitt earlier this year, and has remaining visits to North Carolina (Sept. 6) and Arizona (Sept. 13) left before his commitment date.
The class-of-2025 prospect out of Gonzaga in Washington D.C. received an offer from the Panthers years ago. He has since visited campus three times — twice unofficially and once officially, and still communicates with the staff frequently. This summer, playing for Team Takeover, he led his team deep into the Nike EYBL Peach Jam playoffs, in front of Capel, Brown, and hundreds of other coaches in attendance.
The 6-foot-5 guard is fielding a loaded recruitment that is now down to just six schools: North Carolina, Arizona, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.
Earlier this summer, on an episode of The Pittsburgh Basketball Show, Dixon joined the show to talk about his recruitment, where Pitt stands, his relationships with Brown and Capel, and much more. Dixon gives a recruitment timeline in the interview, and also talks about two more upcoming visits to programs that are not in the ACC.
