Owen Schlager has been one of the Mid-Penn’s top hoopers since he laced up for Trinity’s varsity squad as a freshman.
Now, the Shamrocks’ senior star has decided on where the next chapter of his basketball journey will take place.
Schlager took to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday to announce that the he has pledged to Siena College.
“I have decided to commit to SIENA COLLEGE!” Schlager tweeted. “Thank you to Siena, especially Coaches GMac and Blackwell for scouting me and to all of the staff for the opportunity, Let’s work!”
The 6-foot-3 combo guard helped lead Trinity to a District 3 title and state semifinal in 2023, and earned PennLive’s Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors in 2024 after averaging 23.7 points per game for the D3 runner-up ‘Rocks.
He’ll now head to Loudonville, New York, where he’ll play under head coach and former Syracuse guard Gerry McNamara.
“I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and trainers for putting me in the position I am today,” Schlager also posted. I want to specifically thank my mom and dad for continuing to spend their time and money to support me in any way possible. They are the best parents I could ever ask for. Even when they didn’t want to take me to a workout, they took me. Regardless of whether I play badly or well, they’re always right by my side.”
“Also, I want to thank my trainers Jonesy and Denzel for training me and finding out about me in elementary school. Over the years, they’ve helped me grow as a person and player and have become family over the years. I want to thank both the Trinity staff and Philly Pride staff for pushing me to be better. Specifically, thanks to Coach Kostelac for coaching me these last 3 years. He has helped me with this decision immensely.”
Schlager was ranked as a three-star recruit on Rivals.com, and sat at the No. 13 player in the state in the Class of 2025. He held offers from Drexel, Albany, Stonehill and Quinnipiac.
He will head up Trinity’s basketball program again this winter, looking to capture the 20th District 3 title in program history.
