NEW DELHI: India skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday penned an emotional tribute to Ravichandran Ashwin following the veteran spinner’s retirement, calling him a ‘true OG and legend’ of the game.
In his heartfelt note on social media platform Instagram, Rohit praised Ashwin’s remarkable career, highlighting his ability to turn games around with his skill and intelligence.
“We’ve played together for so many years and created so many memories which I’ll cherish forever. You’ve been a match winner since match 1 & left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of upcoming young bowlers with the classic Ashwin action,” Rohit wrote.
Rohit concluded by wishing Ashwin the best for his next chapter, celebrating an illustrious career filled with milestones.

R Ashwin announces retirement from Test cricket
Ashwin’s remarkable tally of 765 international wickets positions him as India’s second most successful bowler, with only Anil Kumble ahead of him.
In his 106 Tests career, Ashwin has claimed 537 wickets while maintaining an impressive average of 24 runs per wicket. His achievements place him at the seventh position among all-time wicket-takers.
With 537 Test wickets to his name, Ashwin stands fourth in the list of all-time highest wicket-takers in Tests, following the legendary trio of Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708), and Anil Kumble (619).
