Trump blasts Biden’s fitness to run for president if special counsel says he’s ‘not fit to charge’ – Washington Examiner

Date:

Former President Donald Trump questioned whether President Joe Biden is mentally fit to run for office on Saturday after a special counsel report this week refused to charge him with a crime.

Special counsel Robert Hur released a report on Thursday that claimed pressing charges against the president for possessing classified documents at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C., and his private residence in Delaware would be fruitless because of Biden’s “diminished faculties” and cognitive decline.

“The special counsel’s report tries to lead Biden off by claiming that he is too mentally incompetent to convict,” Trump said in a speech in South Carolina. “But if Joe Biden is not fit to charge — they [are] not going to charge him with a crime, but it’s OK for him to become commander in chief.”

Trump’s comment was met with boos from the crowd and chants of “F*** Joe Biden.”

The former commander in chief also questioned whether Biden would make it to the “starting gates,” and he repeated claims that the United States has a two-tiered system of justice since he is still being charged for his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

“Biden’s thugs are still trying to put me in jail on fake charges for crimes that they openly admit that crooked Joe did,” Trump said. “Now, I’m not looking for anything to happen to this guy. He wouldn’t know the difference. … But this is selective political persecution, not prosecution persecution.”

Trump added that other former presidents had also taken classified information from the Oval Office, including former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, but said he is not advocating that any actions be taken against them.

Trump faces 32 counts of unlawful retention of national defense records in Florida and eight charges in relation to his possession of classified documents at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, including conspiracy to obstruct an investigation and making false statements.
