UConn men’s basketball team honored at the White House for national championship title

Date:

The UConn men’s basketball team was honored at White House Tuesday morning to celebrate their back-to-back NCAA championship titles.

President Joe Biden congratulated the team and head coach Dan Hurley on the win.

The Huskies gifted the president with a special UConn No. 46 jersey.

They are the first team since Florida in 2006 and 2007 to win back-to-back NCAA titles.

“Coach, you’ve said that ‘UConn has been running college basketball for 30 years.’ With you at the helm, I think they better get ready for another 30,” said Biden.

“It was a different group of men that we took to court with this year. They produced even greater results and an even greater team,” said Hurley. “A team that will go down as one of the most dominant teams in college basketball history with the way we just destroyed everybody.”

Hurley turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Lakers in June to be their head coach. Instead, he’ll be returning to UConn in hopes of a “three-peat.”
